Experian: You will need your Experian Report Number. If necessary, please visit https://www.experian.com/blogs/ask-experian/removing-a-fraud-alert-from-your-credit-report/, fill out your personal information and be sure to write down the Experian Report Number. It would also be prudent to double check the Consumer Statements under ‘Personal Information’ to confirm that there is an active Fraud Alert reporting.
Next you should call 800 307- 8109. Provide your Experian Report Number and ask to speak with the Fraud Department. Basically, let them know you are looking to apply for new credit and would like them to Remove the Fraud Alert from your credit reports. For your protection, they will likely ask some public records questions to confirm your identity and then remove the alert. Make sure you receive confirmation it has been removed and if possible ask them to mail/fax you a letter supporting the change.
Equifax: Call 800 307- 8109 and select option 6. and let them know you previously submitted a request to remove your fraud alert and need to check the status. If they are showing the alert as active (and it is), stress that you need it to be removed promptly. As usual, they may ask public records questions to confirm your identity and then remove the alert. Make sure you receive confirmation it has been removed and if possible ask them to mail/fax you a letter supporting the change.
